DEPUTY Minister for Information U Ye Tint attended the 2024 ASEAN Media Partners Cooperation Week held in Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China, on 8 November.
The event was also attended by Mr Fan Yun, Deputy Chief Editor of the China Media Group (CMG) and Chief Editor of CGTN, Mr Chen Yijun, Minister for Information and Permanent Member of the Party Committee of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, along with other officials, including the Secretary of the Cambodian Ministry of Information, Kem Gunawadh, officials from the Information Ministries of ASEAN countries, representatives of private news outlets, and guests, as well as Counsellor Daw Khaing Nyein Su from the Nanning Consulate-General of Myanmar.
Before the opening ceremony, CMG officials, representatives, and invitees from ASEAN countries held discussions on collaboration in the media sector with China.
At the opening ceremony, the deputy minister delivered a speech highlighting the vital role of the media in today’s world. He emphasized that the media can help build friendships and mutual benefits between people and nations. However, he also pointed out that some nations are facing unrest and slow development due to media outlets that violate codes of conduct and spread fake news.
The deputy minister stressed the need to narrow the gap in the media sector, sharing technologies and fostering more extensive media industry development through collaboration in the region, including with China. He also emphasized the importance of exchanging information among countries and collaborating on TV programmes to strengthen people-to-people ties. He concluded by urging cooperation inw the media sector in this digital era to foster ‘New Quality, Coexistence, and Civilization’. — MNA/TMT
