Indonesia's Manggala Agni forest firefighting team has extinguished a 28-hectare forest and land fire in South Aceh district after a 10-day operation, a local official said Thursday.
"The burned area consisted of peatland within concession and conservation areas, covered by shrubs, young trees, ferns and oil palm trees," local official Ferdian Krisnanto said.
The fire broke out on July 6, initially affecting about 20 hectares before spreading to a total area of 28 hectares.
Firefighting efforts were hampered by limited water supplies, as hotspots spread farther from available water sources and canals at the site dried up. The team subsequently prepared plans to build a temporary water reservoir.
The operation also involved personnel from the Aceh Natural Resources Conservation Agency and employees of plantation companies operating in the area.
