SUPERVISED by the Anti-illegal Trade Steering Committee, efforts are being made to take effective action against illegal trade activities under the law.

 

On 25 March, the Kengtung Customs Department of Shan State seized undocumented 1,400 bags of garlic worth K16,800,000 from a 12-wheel truck worth K40,000,000 heading to Taunggyi from Kengtung near the Kengphaung post. The official took action under the Customs Law.

 

On 26 March, the Kengtung Township Customs Department also confiscated K2,340,000 worth of undocumented foodstuffs from a vehicle worth K12,000,000 at the same place and took action under the Customs Law.

 

On 27 March, the combined inspection team of Kayin State conducted inspections at the Kawkareik (Tadakyoe) joint checkpoint and seized K2,630,000 worth of electronic materials and shoes from two trucks heading to Yangon from Myawady. They also took action under the Customs Law.

 

Similarly, the Mayanchaung checkpoint of Mon State also captured K1,366,800 worth of foodstuffs from a vehicle heading to Mandalay from Myawady and charged under the Customs Law.

 

On the same day, the Magway Region anti-illegal trade agents also seized 38 gallons of illegal crude oil worth K64,470 in Minbu Township of Minbu District and took action under the Public Property Protection Act.

 

On 28 March, the Bago Region Forest Department seized K8,010,860 worth of 41.6136 tonnes of illegal timbers in the Bago and Thayawady districts and took action under the Forest Law.

 

Moreover, the combined inspection team consisting of Myanmar police members also confiscated four unregistered motorcycles worth K1,200,000 in Htigyaing Township of Katha District in Sagaing Region and took action under the Export and Import Law, and the Forest Department seized 1.3090 tonnes of illegal teak worth K392,700 in Bamauk Township of Katha District and charged under the Forest Law.

 

Therefore, a total of 18 arrests (estimated value of K84,804,830) were made from 25 to 28 March, according to the committee. — MNA
