Many illegal teaks logs, sawn teaks and five sawmill were seized in “Manmaw” reserved forest in Indaw Township, Katha district, Sagaing region yesterday.
After information received, staff from Katha katha District and Township Forest Departments led by Assistant Director U Myint Naing Oo combed “Manmaw” reserved forest located between Indaw and Bamauk Townships for illegal teak logs.
The authorities seized 261 illegal teak logs weighing 105.972 tons, 1406 illegal sawn teaks weighing 19.0954 tons, five illegal sawmills, one fire engine and one chainsaw.
The search for illegal sawmill owners is ongoing to bring them to court, according to Assistant Director U Myint Naing Oo of the Forest Department.—Lu Aung (Katha)
