Houthis release video of Saudi border attack

Anti-government forces in Yemen have released footage of what they say was an attack near the border with Saudi Arabia in which they took more than 2,000 prisoners including Saudi soldiers.

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict for more than four years between Houthi insurgents backed by Iran and forces loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi's ousted government which is backed by Saudi Arabia.

A Houthi spokesperson said on Sunday that the video showed a military operation near the border with Saudi Arabia's southern region.

The footage shows what the Houthis say is a detained Saudi solider, and vehicles and weapons they claim to have seized from the Saudi military.

Reuters news agency says it could not independently verify the Houthi claims and Saudi Arabia has not commented.

But observers say if the claims are true, it signals an escalation of the conflict in the region.
