Hotels in Chin State to reopen in next week of June

The hotels and guesthouses in Kanpetlet and Mindat in Chin State will be reopened in the third week of June following the temporary suspension because of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic, according to the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Chin State.

“The inspection team is now checking the hotels and guesthouses in Chin State whether they follow the rules and regulations in accordance with the guidance of the Ministry of Health and Sports. The inspection team may issue the permission letters officially beginning from next week,” said an official from the Directorate of Hotels and Tourism in Chin State. A total of 13 hotels and guesthouses in Chin State are holding the hotel licence issued by the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism. Most of the hotels and guesthouses are located in Kanpetlet and Mindat townships.

Although the Chin State government permitted the resumption of the passenger bus lines in Chin State starting from 3 June, there are only a few people travelling because of the pandemic. “Some of the hotels and guesthouses are not resuming their operation on their own will because there are not enough travellers. Only a few visitors reach the state with their own special reasons,” said the official. At present, only one-third of the hotels have resumed their hotel operations across the country. Yangon Region topped the list with 284 hotels reoperation followed by Shan state with 94 hotels resuming operation as of 29 May. For the moment, tourist arrivals in Myanmar have dropped by 45 per cent because of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic in the first four months of this year compared to the corresponding period of last year, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.—Van Maung (Chin State)
