March 8

GUAVA growers from NyaungU township, Mandalay are happy to get a good price for guava this year. They are selling them for K1,200 per viss, said U Htay Myint, a guava grower from Latpanchaypaw village.

This is the main season of guava production. Farmers are selling their products by bringing them to the market.

The guavas are growing mainly in Auknyat village, Ahhtetnyat village, Thitdaungtaung village, Thitdauntkyaung village and Taungphatwun village. The guava from those villages is conveyed to the Pakokku market, NyaungU market, and the Myingyan market. Some of the guava traders are come and buy the fruit on the farmland. The growers are earning their expected price which is not less than K1,000 per viss this year.

Also, one of the guavas is named six-month guava. It is blossomed after over one year. The trees of guava are grown at least five feet away from each other so that the tree can have fresh air and will be having beautiful fruit. The guavas are grown used of underground water.

To make the fruits beautiful and prevent the germs from penetrating, each fruit is wrapped in paper and covered with plastic bags. Then, it can start to pick up after two months of covering with plastic bags. Guava cultivation requires fewer labourers and input costs. The growers from NyaungU township are growing the guavas using underground water, and the farmland is successfully yielded.
