Glittering 30th SEA Games opens at Philippines Arena

The opening ceremony of the 30th South East Asian (SEA) Games saw glittering dances and performances of Philippines cultural troupes yesterday at the world’s largest arena, the Philippines Arena, Bulacan province, northern Philippines, yesterday.

The ceremony began with athletes and coaches from eleven ASEAN nations, starting with Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste and Vietnam, and the host Philippines, marching into the Arena as part of the opening ceremony.

Also, President of the Philippines Rodrigo Duterte was in attendance as he opened the 30th SEA Games.

The ceremony saw the carrying of the SEA Games Federation flag by Filipino athletes, followed by modern and hip-hop performances by Filipino artistes.

There are 56 categories of sports being included in the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines, and Myanmar will participate in 31 sports competitions.

The Philippines also hosted the SEA Games in 2005.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
