The stabbing rampage took place on Wednesday at Jerash, the site of ancient Roman ruins about 50 kilometers north of the capital Amman.

Jordanian government officials say three Mexicans, one Swiss citizen as well as their tour guide and three others were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police have detained the attacker at the site and are investigating his motive and background.
