Floods cause 3700 KhinU residents to take shelter at temporary relief camps

The water level of Ayeyawady River is rising fast and some houses, schools, rural clinics, libraries, police outposts and government offices in KhinU Township, Sagaing Region were submerged by floodwaters.

 


About 3700 residents from 580 households from seven villages are currently taking refuge at temporary relief camps and government’s administrative mechanism was temporary shutdown as some schools, rural clinics, libraries and offices were inundated by floodwaters from the rising water level of Ayeyawady River. There is a concern among flood victims over possible outbreak of cholera, said some locals.

 


Security personnel led by Captain Aung Myo from No.4 recruit unit distributed drinking water bottles to flood victims and are carrying out rescue operation.—Chit San
