To promote the development of the fisheries sector and help conserve fish resources, the Township Fisheries Department held a fish fingerling release ceremony at the Taungywa Ferry on the Ngawun River in Shitshaung Ward, Ngathaichaung Town, Yegyi Township, Ayeyarwady Region, at 8:30 a.m. on July 28.

At the ceremony, Township Fisheries Department Chief U Win Aung Khaing presented the fingerlings to the participants. Subsequently, Township Management and Administration Committee Chairman U Than Zaw Lin, township-level departmental officials, and members of the Township Women's Affairs Federation released a total of 250,000 fingerlings into the natural waters of the Ngawun River. The released fish comprised 125,000 Labeo rohita fingerlings and 125,000 Thai silver barb fingerlings.

The annual fish release program is intended to enhance fish stocks, support the sustainability of inland fisheries, and contribute to the long-term development of the fisheries sector.—Aung Thu Han (IPRD)
