Fire destroys 32 houses in Saling Twsp.

A fire broke out in Pinnepin Village in Saling Township, Magway Region at about 5:35 pm on 23 March due to an overheated electric kettle, according to the Township Fire Services Department.

The fire was believed to have started from an overheated kettle in the home of U Zi Kwet and spread to nearby houses and completely destroyed 32 houses, inflicting the estimated loss of Ks. 14.1 million.  So far, no casualties have been reported in the incident.

Firemen from the Township Fire Services Department, police members and members of the Township Red-Cross Society rushed to the incident scene to put out the fire in collaboration with auxiliary fire fighters and villagers using seven fire engines and three water tankers. The blaze was brought under control at about 6:15 pm and successfully extinguished at about 6:30 pm.

A total of 116 fire victims including 52 men and 64 women are currently taking refuge in the homes of their relatives and monastery, according to the Township Fire Services Department.—Township IPRD
