Dutch police arrest terror suspect in Heerlen

Dutch police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in terrorism last Friday in Heerlen in the southern Dutch province of Limburg, the Dutch public prosecutor announced on Tuesday.

The investigation into the suspect started on Friday based on information from the General Intelligence and Security Service of the Netherlands (AIVD). The 37-year-old man from Heerlen was allegedly looking for firearms.

The suspect was arrested in his home on Friday evening. During the search of the home the police seized mobile phones, a laptop, documents and three combat and safety vests.

A second suspect was arrested that same evening, a 21-year-old man from Sittard. A third suspect, a 33-year-old man from Sittard, was arrested on Monday evening. These men are suspected of arms trafficking and not of terrorism yet.
