DEPUTY Prime Minister and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo, along with Deputy Minister U Aung Myaing and officials, inspected the upgrade of the Toungoo-Pyinmana railway section yesterday afternoon. The inspection was conducted by travelling from Pyinmana Station on an RBE train, covering a 59-mile stretch of the railway where speed enhancements are being implemented.

During the inspection, the Deputy Prime Minister examined track joint areas where train speeds are currently reduced at station entrances. He instructed concerned personnel to swiftly replace existing crossings with modern cast manganese steel crossings to ensure safe and efficient train movement. He called for improvements in railway bridge approaches to enhance safety and durability, systematic relocation of old railway tracks stored along station premises, and the filling of required track ballast to support speed enhancement. Instructions were also given to maintain cleanliness along the railway and ensure that station staff diligently perform their assigned duties.

General Mya Tun Oo and officials also inspected upgrade efforts between Toungoo Station and Thaungtainggon Station, particularly on the upper railway. To raise train speeds, old wooden sleepers are being replaced with synthetic ones, and 75-pound rails are upgraded to stronger 100-pound 50N rails. The General assessed these reinforcement efforts and encouraged Myanmar Railways staff on-site. — MNA/KZL
