Corn price remains elevated in late cultivation season

ACCORDING to the corn growers, local farmers from Kyaukdone village in Minbu (Sagu) township are growing the corn. The cultivation is successful with the price remaining high.

The temperature is high, and it seems like it is too late to cultivate the corns. Corn cultivations need good soil moisture. If the corns are grown in summer and winter, they need to be irrigated to have sufficient water. Also, the corn plants need good care to grow well.

After two months of the cultivation period, the corn can be harvested in three months. The corn is sold for K100 per one in the retail market and K80 per one in the wholesale market. The systematic cultivation of corn can yield abundantly.

There are three types of corns’ species in Myanmar. There are around 10,000 plant of corn per acre. Each plant can yield three corns. Now, the local corn growers are happy with earning of good price, it is learnt. — Zeyar Htet (Minbu)/GNLM
