As A Myanmar saying goes: “travellers can understand the value of water bottles and slippers in summer”, the value of water is essential for all living beings including human beings for the needs of their daily life. It is because water is more important than food.
Among other significant international days commemorating the activities and benefits of the global people, World Water Day was designated by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993.
From then onward, global countries have been organizing World Water Day yearly for enabling people to notice and recognize the essential value of water in line with Sustainable Development Goal 6. In fact, World Water Day highlights the important role of fresh water for public consumption as well as an agricultural purpose. So, the United Nations releases the UN World Water Development Report around World Water Day.
In implementing the theme for 2023, “Accelerating Change”, all global countries including Myanmar have to carry out the improvement of water and hygienic measures with the participation of the government and the people to meet the goal. If so, all the people will have to consume hygienic water for their life safety.
In Myanmar, the National Water Resources Committee is serving the duties and functions to draw up and implement an integrated water management system, and develop a national integrated water management strategy, a national water resources policy, a water framework directive and a water law. The national committee has been relentlessly striving for ensuring water sufficiency not only in the rural areas but also in the urban areas with the aim of supplying hygienic water to the people and irrigating the farmlands.
World Water Day 2023 is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis.
Currently, dysfunction throughout the water cycle undermines progress on all major global issues, from health to hunger, gender equality to jobs, education to industry, and disasters to peace. No 6 point of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) adopted by the United Nations as part of the 2030 Agenda mentions the promise that everyone would have safely managed water and sanitation by 2030.
Generally, anyone cannot ensure the impact of thirst in the morning, showing the important role of water in the daily life of human beings. Various sorts of jewellery items as well as the property may be valuable. But these cannot be compared to the invaluable role of water. So, all global people can consume water but save it.
