Construction of two major bridges in Taninthayi Region in full swing

Chief Minister of Taninthayi Region U Myint Maung inspected construction of two major bridges in Taninthayi Township this morning.


Accompanied by the local cabinet members, officials from the Ministry of Construction and departmental officials, the chief minister visited construction site of Taninthayi Bridge. The chief minister was torched upon the completion of Taninthayi Bridge and Bawdikam Bridge by concerned officials from the Special Bridge Group-4 under the Department of Bridge at the briefing hall of the construction site.


Next, the chief minister and his entourage looked into the progress of Taninthayi Bridge and its approaches, and called for timely completion of the project ahead of schedule by meeting the set standard. They then proceeded to Bawdikam Village to oversee the development of Bawdikam Bridge where they heard reports progress of the project presented by the site in-charges.


Taninthayi Bridge is 1444 ft. long, 28 ft. wide and has a 4 ft. wide pedestrian walkway on its each side. Its clearance is about 33 ft. and waterway under the bridge is 164 ft. and the reinforced concrete structure can withstand up to 75 tons of weight. The project is a whole is 96 percent complete.


The Bawdikam Bridge is of a reinforced concrete facility and measures 787 ft. in length, 24 ft. in width and has a 3 ft. pedestrian walkway on each side of the bridge. The bridge’s clearance is 7 ft. high, and the waterway its underneath is 66 ft. and it is expected to withstand 75 tons of loads.


The estimated cost of the bridge including the approaches is Ks. 5.2 billion and the project has been 63 percent finished so far, according to a source from the Special Bridge Group-4.—
