Confiscated illegal items; Timbers, ceramics, foodstuffs, animal medicines, and vehicles

The Customs on-duty teams under the management of the Customs Department made inspections on 28 and 29 October and impounded an unregistered Honda Fit (approximately K6 million) that parked near the detour of Moppalin-Soppanu-Ingabo road at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint, a Nissan Caravan, a Toyota HiAce car and a Dong Feng tractor head with a trailer (approximately worth K84 million), headed from Myawady to Yangon and from Thaton to Bago, carrying five kinds of goods worth K11.8 million, including 450 kilogrammes of variety of chinaware and 5,400 kilogrammes of porcelain pillar at the Mayanchaung permanent checkpoint and six kilogrammes of powder (supposed to be drugs) worth K90 million from luggage at the Yangon International Airport (Import Desk). The action was taken under Customs procedures.

A total of 39.212 tonnes of illegal teak worth 17,880,324 in Toungoo district on 28 October and 0.521 tonne of illegal teak worth K343,860 in Bago district were seized on 30 October and action was taken under the Forest Law.

A combined team captured a total of 4.101 tonnes of illegal teak worth K5,742,520 from a Toyota Dyna car (estimated value of K25 million) between Milepost 8/4 and 8/3 on Yangon-Mandalay expressway in Hlegu township on 29 October. The action was taken under the Forest Law. The combined team under the supervision of the Sagaing Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force nabbed 13 kinds of animal medicines worth K3.99 million, including 1,737 boxes of smuggled Gut Boost (animal tonic) in Sagaing township on 30 October. The action was taken under the National Drug Law.

A total of 13 arrests were made on three consecutive days from 28 to 30 October, with an estimated value of about K244.759 million, as reported by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee. — MNA/MKKS
