ACCORDING to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, bilateral medical exchanges and joint training programmes were conducted between China’s Bishan District People’s Hospital in Chongqing and Myanmar’s North Okkalapa General Hospital.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation between China’s Bishan Hospital and Myanmar’s North Okkalapa General Hospital was signed in November 2023, and the medical exchanges and joint training programmes were jointly organized and arranged by the Foreign Affairs Office of Chongqing Municipal People’s Government, the Consulate-General of Myanmar, and Bishan Hospital.

The programme aimed to strengthen friendship and cooperation between the two hospitals, as well as to promote medical exchanges and joint training programmes, by inviting a delegation of medical experts, doctors, nurses, and hospital management representatives from North Okkalapa General Hospital in Yangon, Myanmar, to Bishan District People’s Hospital in Chongqing, China.

According to the reports, the Consulate-General of Myanmar in Chongqing is actively working to further expand cooperation between the two countries in the medical and education sectors, and the China-Myanmar medical exchange programme will lay a solid foundation for broader cooperation in public health, medical services, research, and people-to-people exchanges.

The medical exchange programme was attended by Chinese officials, Consul-General U Kyaw Zeyar Lin of Myanmar in Chongqing, and a delegation from North Okkalapa General Hospital led by Professor Dr Nay Aung Tun. — ASH/ TH
