Border trade value reaches over $1.4 bln this FY

Myanmar has earned over US$1.4 billion from border trade between 1 October and 22 November, exceeding the $312 million collected during the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.


Total border trade included $989 million in exports and $436 million in imports. At this time last year, total border trade was valued at $1.1 billion.


Myanmar is conducting border trade with China, Thailand, Bangladesh and India through 17 border trade camps, including Muse, Lwejel, Chinshwehaw, Kanpaikti, Kengtung, Tachilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Nabule/Htikhee, Mawtaung, Mese, Sittway, Maungdaw, Tamu, Reed and Htantalan.


Among all gates, the Muse border gate sees the largest volume and value of border trade, with more than $765 million this FY, followed by Htikhee with $213 million and Myawady with $156 million.


It was also reported that the value of border trade at the Lwejel, Myeik, Htikhee, Tamu and Reed stations decreased this FY.


Myanmar mainly exports agricultural products, animal products, fisheries, minerals and forest products to foreign countries, while capital goods, intermediate goods and consumer goods are imported into the country.—GNLM (Translated by Hay Mar)
