Tuesday marks four months since a ceasefire took effect in Gaza. The United States reportedly plans to hold the first meeting of the Board of Peace as early as next week to discuss funding to rebuild the enclave.

Israel and Hamas agreed to a US-led ceasefire last October after two years of fighting. The Rafah border crossing with Egypt reopened this month as Washington announced the start of phase two of its peace plan.

US media reports say President Donald Trump plans to convene the board possibly on February 19, with Arab nations and other members likely to attend.

Reports say fundraising for reconstruction is on the agenda, but the cost is expected to be enormous. The United Nations has put the figure at around 70 billion dollars.

Many people in Gaza are still living in tents with their neighborhoods reduced to rubble. Israel has also staged sporadic attacks, claiming ceasefire violations by Hamas. Health authorities in Gaza say 581 people have died in the four months since the truce began.
