Arrested boy 'was interested in killing'

NHK has learned that a boy who was arrested for allegedly wounding a girl with a knife in northern Japan has suggested he was interested in killing someone.


The elementary school girl was slashed in the neck on a road in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, on Tuesday. She suffered an injury expected to take three weeks to heal.


Police arrested a 14-year-old junior high school student on suspicion of attempted murder.


The police found knives in his bag. Based on security camera footage, the police suspect that after leaving school, the boy followed the girl and attacked her.


Investigative sources say the boy admitted to the charge and told police he slashed her neck with the intention of killing her.


The sources also say the boy suggested he had been interested in killing someone.
