THE 31st Myanmar Military Medical Conference opened yesterday morning at the No 2 Defence Services General Hospital (700-bed) in Aungban.

 

Chair of the Defence Ser­vices Medical Research and Development Committee and Director of Medical Services, Maj-Gen Ko Ko Lwin, delivered the opening address. Senior officers, professors, medical officers, nurses, medical spe­cialists, officials from the Min­istry of Health, retired senior officers, guests, and medical experts from Russia, Thailand, Vietnam, Laos, Bhutan, and In­dia attended the event.

 

The conference is being held under the theme: “Stra­tegic Management in Providing Battlefield Medical Protection During Challenging Periods.” It will run until 6 March.

 

Following the opening cer­emony, the director of the Med­ical Services and guests toured the research poster displays.

 

On the first day, sym­posium sessions discussed topics including methods of cooperation to ensure combat readiness in battlefield injury management; the role of the Tatmadaw medical corps in nat­ural disaster relief; training for medics in caring for battlefield casualties; sharing experiences in treating battlefield injuries in southern Shan State; handling forensic medical cases in mili­tary hospitals; improving treat­ment quality for women’s can­cers through evolving clinical therapies; challenges in kidney transplantation; the historical record of the Defence Servic­es Medical Research Unit; and conditions and challenges relat­ed to antimicrobial resistance. One special lecture was also presented.

 

Furthermore, 32 research papers covering medical sci­ence, obstetrics and gynaecol­ogy, microbiology, and nursing were presented.

 

A total of 488 participants from Tatmadaw hospitals and medical battalions attended in person, while 151 participants joined online. — MNA/KZL
