THE Myanmar U-22 men’s na-tional football team will take on the Malaysian U-22 men’s team today in the opening match for Group A of the men’s football competition at the 30th South East Asian Games.
The match will be held at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila, the Philippines.A match coordination meeting and press conference were held yesterday afternoon at the Century Park in Manila.
The head coaches of the participating teams attended the conference.
Myanmar U-22 head coach Velizar Popov said that he was hoping for a good competition as team Myanmar was ready and well-prepared. He said he would try for a good result, and he was hoping for a fair tourney, with all teams getting equal opportunity.
Malaysia U-22 team head coach Ong Kim Swee said that all teams wanted victory and he believed that this year’s SEA Games would be differ-ent from the previous editions because of two overage players being allowed to participate in the U-22 teams for the first time.
He said this would help balance each team, adding that the best team would win the game.
The match between Myan-mar and Malaysia, which starts 2 p.m. today, will be broadcast live on MRTV, MRTV Sports Channel and Channel 7, ac-cording to the Myanmar Foot-ball Federation.—Lynn Thit (Tgi)
