249 prisoners released in President’s amnesty in Kawthoung

With the aim of marking the Myanmar New Year, ensuring the peace of mind of the people and taking into consideration the humanitarian concerns, a total of 24896 prisoners serving jail terms in various correctional facilities across the nation were released in President’s amnesty.

 

A total of 1135 prisoners were released in President’s amnesty in Taninthayi Region.  Of which 249 prisoners in Kawthoung Prison were released on 17 April, Myanmar’s New Year Day.

 

In Kawthoung, 249 prisoners including 240 domestic prisoners and nine foreign prisoners were released and they will be sent back to their homes by buses. All of them were conducted thermal screening and medical check-ups. In addition, they all were educated how to prevent the spread of coronavirus and how to follow the instruction guided by the Ministry of Health and Sports before being sent to their homes.
