YCDC to generate electricity with methane gas from landfills

According to the Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC), electricity will be generated with methane gas released from the final landfills.

Reportedly, the YCDC and Korea’s GES Co, Ltd have discussed a plan to purify methane gas from the final landfills with an operation to generate electricity. On 3 April at Chatrium Hotel in Yangon, a discussion emphasized the cooperation of YCDC and Korea’s GES Co Ltd in working to purify methane gas from the final waste dump, and r u n a generator.

At the final landfills, composting process is also underway to reduce the volume of waste due to rare land plots.

It is reported that methane gas from landfills is released through pipes to prevent outbreak of fire due to heat.

So, the discussion focused on using the methane gas efficiently.
