World leaders remember Holocaust in Jerusalem

24 Jan

World leaders have gathered in Jerusalem to remember the victims of the Holocaust during World War Two.

The ceremony on Thursday at The World Holocaust Remembrance Center took place ahead of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp in Poland.

Leaders from more than 40 countries attended, including US Vice President Mike Pence, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Britain's Prince Charles.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin hosted the ceremony and delivered a eulogy for the 6 million Jews killed by Nazi Germany and their collaborators.

Rivlin expressed gratitude to the attendees for their solidarity against anti-Semitism.

The world leaders vowed never to forget the lessons of the Holocaust, with French President Emmanuel Macron pledging to fight a renewed tide of anti-Semitism.

The number of attacks targeting Jews is believed to be on the rise globally.
