World leaders pressure Iran on nuclear deal

13 January

The leaders of Britain, Germany and France have issued a joint statement to urge Iran to fully comply with a 2015 nuclear deal.

The document, released on Sunday, expressed regret over the United States' 2018 decision to withdraw from the deal, and concern about the effect of further economic sanctions on Iran.

It also referred to violations of the deal by Tehran since July 2019, urging Iran to reverse all measures inconsistent with the agreement and return to full compliance.

Iran announced this month that it would no longer abide by a pledge to limit uranium enrichment.

Tensions between Washington and Tehran are heightened following the US killing of an Iranian general early this month, and subsequent Iranian rocket attacks on US bases in Iraq.
