A team from World Health Ambassador-USA provided free treatment to patients with cardiac, gynecology, skin, teeth, and oral problems and those requiring general surgery between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from 25 to 26 March at the Myeik General Hospital, Taninthayi Region.
The team of specialists led by WHA founder, Dr. Thien Do, a cardiologist, provided free treatment to 355 of the 603 registered patients, including 131 cardiac patients, 82 patients with skin problems, 40 patients requiring surgery, and 82 requiring dental care on 25 March. The team included specialists and health staff from the Myeik General Hospital.
“Myanmar people have little knowledge when it comes to health. So, people should go for medical check-ups every year or every two years. This can minimize the health risk and cost,” said Dr. Huy Phan, an obstetrician and gynecologist with WHA.
“This was WHA’s second visit to Myanmar. In 2014, they provided free services in upper Myanmar, including Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay. This time, they covered Mawlamyine, Dawei, and Myeik regions. They gave free services at the Dawei General Hospital, and conducted medical inspections in villages,” said Daw Win Myat Thu, a member of WHA.
“This was WHA’s first time in Myeik and Dawei. They often volunteer in Thailand, France, and Japan. They have also handed over patients to doctors with the Myeik General Hospital for further treatment,” said Dr. Yu Yu Wai, the head of the Myeik General Hospital. Patients who had registered for cardiac, gynecology, and skin problems and surgery received treatment on 25 and 26 March, and dental treatment was provided only on 25 March, according to the Myeik General Hospital.—Khine Htoo
