Winter crop production likely to fall this year

ACCORDING to the local growers, winter crop production is expected to drop this year because Phaungpyin Township in Sagaing Region is flooded in this winter crop season.

There have been four floods in Phaungpyin township this year. The local growers are cultivating the crops yearly as usual, and this year, the crops and paddy are destroyed by floods. The river water encroached the town in October, and some growers cultivated their winter corps in the third week of December. For lack of monthly rain, the crops have also been less successful. There has been no rain since the time of cultivation of the crops. So, the plants are dying for lack of moisture.

The winter crops such as peanuts, soybeans and other variety beans are usually grown in early October. Other crops such as maize, sesame, sunflower, garlic and online are grown in moderation.
