Weapons, communication devices seized from suspected arm smugglers in Namtsang

Security personnel confiscated one machine gun and one magazine from a motorist in a vehicle search in Namtsang Township, Shan State on 1 February; the Ministry of Home Affairs reported.

Following an initial interrogation, the motorist identified as Khun Shwe Aye, 44 years of age confessed that the weapons were taken from a man named Sai Ba Maung from Ward-2 in Namtsang Township to resell them. Upon receiving the information, security personnel rushed to a house of a suspecious arm smuggler.

The search of the suspected arm smuggler led to the discovery of two machine guns, two HK33 rifles, one M21 rifle, four M22 rifles, one carbine, two M16 rifles, one 16/40 MM rifle, one .22 long rifle, and 11 pistols totaling 25 different kind of guns, 6,142 rounds of ammunition, 187 magazines, 80 bombs, 91 hand grenades, military equipment, one bayonet, communication devices and related materials.

The two men are being questioned for possession of weapons by the local police station.—MOHA
