Village pond being built in Pwintphyu Tsp

Pwintphyu, February 7

A pond is being constructed near the village of Chaung Sone in Pwintphyu township with the allotted funds in 2019-2020 fiscal year, according to U Zaw Tun, an officer from the township Dry Zone Greening Department.

The aim of building the pond is to supply sufficient drinking water to the villagers and to make the environment green in the township. The department has been annually planting village forests by nurturing shady saplings and village development forests by giving each household three teak saplings and 20 hard-wood saplings to grow in community-owned forests.

Besides, the department has been providing modified stoves to villages as part of efforts to prevent deforestation, raising awareness among local people of climate change.

The pond being constructed with the funds of K 2.7 million will be 100 ft in length, 50 ft in wide and six ft in depth when completed. The construction works that started on 1st January, 2020, have been so far 90 percent completed.—Ye Win naing (Nyaung-U)
