US sends more troops to Kenya after attack

The US military announced on Monday that it deployed additional troops to Kenya, a day after a deadly attack on its military base in the country's southeast.

Reuters reported that about 50 additional forces had been deployed, citing an anonymous official.

Nearly 150 US personnel were reportedly at the base near the border with Somalia at the time of the attack by Somali Islamic extremist group Al-Shabab.

One US military service member and two contractors were killed, and two US Defense Department officials were wounded.

The US military analyzes that the attack isn't linked to Iran, which has threatened to retaliate for the US killing of a top Iranian general.
