Yoma Land and Westin Yangon (Marriott Internation-al) signed an agreement on Westin Yangon Hotel Project at Sule Shangri La Hotel on 24 October 2019 and the project works has commenced.
“Construction project had started. Efforts will be made to complete Westin Yangon Hotel on 2021, the year when Yoma Central Project was to be completed” said Yoma Land’s Head of Real Estate Mr. Ste-phen Purvis. Yoma Central Project will be constructed on a 2.44 million square feet of floor area. Of this, Westin Yangon Hotel will take up a total of 250,000 square foot of floor area.

Emergence of such hotels will support Yangon’s hotel and travel sectors while also fulfill-ing world class hotel rooms for international travellers. Before Yoma Land signed an agreement with Westin Yan-gon (Marriott International) to include Westin Yangon Ho-tel Project in Yoma Central, the site already included the Peninsula Yangon, former headquarters of the Burma Railway Company that will be restored into a luxury hotel that was expected to bring a new level of distinctions to the Myanmar hospitality scene. Yoma Central is an integrated development featuring luxu-ry residences, two Grade A office towers, a business ho-tel and serviced apartments, all of which will be connected seamlessly by a retail podium.

Splendid location to visit old Yangon and heritage sites
Yangon Heritage Trust, Yangon City Development Committee and supporting partners honour key heritage sites throughout Yangon by installation of the commemo-rative blue plaques.
Blue Plaques are perma-nent signs installed in a public place to commemorate a link between that location and a famous person, event, or land-mark—serving as a kind of his-torical marker.
Blue Plaques are one of the most effective and visible means to celebrate Yangon’s rich history. With their direct appeal to the public, the in-troduction of commemora-tive Blue Plaques had made Yangon’s history accessible to people of all ages and back-grounds.
To date, there were 31 Blue Plaque buildings/sites in Yangon with many in down-town Yangon.
Yoma Central with Westin Yangon Hotel once complet-ed will be in the heart of Yangon close to Sule Pagoda and Shwedagon Pagoda. Bogyoke Aung San Market established in 1926 was right beside it.
Bogyoke Aung San Mar-ket itself was a Blue Plaque building/site while other Blue Plaque buildings/sites within a comfortable walking distance to Yoma Central and Westin Yangon Hotel are the City Hall, the Rowe & Company Depart-ment Store, the Armenian Ap-ostolic Church of St. John The Baptist, Yangon Central Fire Station, General Post Office, Lawkanat Building, Maha Bandoola Park, Musmeah Yeshua Synagogue, B.E.H.S. (6) Botahtaung, B.E.H.S (1) Dagon, High Court, B.E.H.S (1) Lanmadaw, Bo Aung Kyaw Street, and The Strand Hotel.
Yoma Central and Westin Yangon Hotel, the latest addition of modernity, comfort and convenience to Yangon will be right smack within histori-cal hundred years old buildings and sites.
