Turkey declares 4-day lockdown to curb COVID-19 spread

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday declared four days of lockdown on April 23-26 to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The lockdown would start at midnight on Wednesday and last until midnight on April 26, he added.

April 23 is a public holiday in Turkey, which marks the National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

Turkey's first lockdown was imposed at the weekend on April 11 and 12, followed by a second on April 18 and 19, both aiming at preventing people from going out as weather conditions across the country improved.

Turkey has so far recorded 90,980 coronavirus cases and 2,140 deaths.
