Tugboat explosion leaves 5 injured

Five people were injured in an explosion on board a tugboat in the Ayeyawady River near Ywathayar Village, Padaung Township in Bago Region on 1 February, reported by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

 

The blast occurred at about 9:35 a.m. on Friday when a mechanic identified as Shine Ko, 21 years old started a generator in a cockpit of the anchored tugboat that belongs to a businesswoman named Daw Nang Lin Lin Htike from Mandalay. The explosion caused to start a blaze that consumed 10 barrels of diesel on the tugboat. The tugboat capsized and then sank following the incident.

 

Five crewmembers including the mechanic were injured in the fire. Out of the injured people, two men were seriously hurt. The injured crewmembers have been sent to a public hospital in Pyay. The mechanic of the tugboat is being questioned over the incident by the local police force.—MOHA
