One person was killed and five others injured in a traffic accident in Madaya Township, Mandalay Region on 2 February.
An AD van driven by a man identified as Chit Oo Maung, 35 years of age from Letpanhla Village, Mahaaungmye Township with six people aboard hit a tree and plunged into a drainage ditch after the sleepy driver lost control of the car. The accident occurred between milepost 13/4 and 13/5 on the Mandalay-Mogok Road near Wathonedara Village in Madaya Township. One man named U Tun Zaw, 45 years old died and five others including the driver were hurt in the incident.
The driver was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby hospital. Action has been taken against the driver in accordance with the law by the local police station.—Kyaw Kyaw (Mahlaing)
