Traditional bullock-cart race attracts locals

Meiktila, 18 February

The 58th anniversary of the Buddha Pujaniya festival of Myat Nyinaung Pagoda is being celebrated on a grand scale in Wundwin Township, Mandalay Region in conjunction with a Myanmar traditional bullock-cart race.

“This event is very popular for the participants from not only Meiktila District but also Kyaukse District. The pagoda festival is being commemorated from 12 to 20 February and the prize awarding ceremony will be held on 21 February. The traditional competition is categorized into two types—the bullock-cart race and the bullock-cart show—and spectators more prefer to enjoy the bullock-cart race. I come to here yearly to support both contests,” said Ko Thar Dun Kyaw from Phayarsu Village.
