The value of border trade has reached US$ 2.96 billion as of 10 January, this fiscal year, up over $625 million compared with the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
This fiscal year, which ran from 1 October, 2019 to 10 January, 2020, the country’s exports via border gates amounted to $2.05 billion, while imports reached $910 million.
This fiscal year’s figures increased by $625 million compared to the same period in FY 2018-2019, when it was reported at $2.34 billion.
Muse topped the list of border checkpoints with the most trade, valued at $1.6 billion, followed by Hteekhee with $472 million.
Myanmar mainly conducts border trade with neighboring China through the Muse, Lweje, Chinshwehaw, Kanpikete and Kengtung border gates, and with Thailand through the Tachilek, Myawady, Kawthoung, Myeik, Hteekhee, Mawtaung and Maese border gates.
Border trade is also conducted with Bangladesh through the Sittwe and Maungtaw gates, and with India through the Tamu, Reed, Thantlang and Kenglap border gates.
The country’s agricultural products, animal products, fisheries, minerals and forest products are mainly exported, while capital goods, intermediate goods and consumer goods are imported.—Zwe (Translated by Hay Mar)
