Thai man apprehended while trying to exchange fake US dollars

A Thai national was arrested by police at a money exchange in Tachilek, a border city in Eastern Shan State on Tuesday afternoon for trying exchange his fake US dollars for Thai baht.

           

A money exchange official informed the local police force by phone that the Thai man who was later identified by police as Mr. Ekka Phon Kaew Thong from Mae Sai, came to the money exchange with 1,900 fake US dollars and asked to exchange for the Thai baht. Upon receiving information, the police rushed to the money exchange where they arrested the Thai man with 19 fake US dollar notes.

           

According to an initial investigation, the Thai man confessed that he got fake US dollars from his friend who is also from Mae Sai and asked for him to exchange fake US money for Thai baht. Action has been taken against the Thai man over possession of fake US dollars by the local police station.—Wai Yan Lin (Tachilek)
