Taliban blasts kill 14 people, injure more than 50

A series of bombings hit the Afghan capital Kabul and its neighboring province on Thursday, killing at least 14 civilians and injuring over 50 others. The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attacks.

A car exploded on Thursday morning in the capital's diplomatic quarter known as the Green Zone, which houses the US and other embassies.

The Afghan Interior Ministry says at least 10 civilians were killed and more than 40 others wounded in the blast.

Three hours later, a car loaded with explosives was detonated in Logar Province near Kabul, killing four people and injuring more than 10 others.

The Taliban said they targeted foreigners and the international forces.

The attacks come amid negotiations for a peace deal between the militant group and the US government.

A US negotiator said on Monday that they have agreed in principle on a draft peace accord under which 5,000 of 14,000 US troops will withdraw from Afghanistan within 135 days.

Observers say the Taliban's continued terrorism is seen as a display of its attack capability and an effort to get an edge in peace negotiations with the US.
