Rival candidate challenges Indonesia vote result

Thousands of people gathered in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta on Tuesday to protest the official results of last month's presidential election.

The protesters, who support the opposition candidate Prabowo Subianto, say the election was rigged.

The election commission has completed final vote-counting and says President Joko Widodo won 55 percent of the vote, while Prabowo took 44 percent.

The country's election watchdog says there is no evidence of vote-rigging.

The protests turned violent late at night. Police fired tear gas to disperse the crowds, and arrested at least 20 people. Prabowo says he plans to contest the election results in court.
