Authorities in the Philippines are working to establish the damage caused by a strong earthquake which rocked the northern island of Luzon.
Local media outlets are reporting at least eight people have been killed in Pampanga province.
The US Geological Survey says a magnitude 6.1 quake struck a town about 60 kilometers northwest of the capital, Manila.
Local media say rescue efforts are underway in the province where collapsed buildings caused the fatalities. Many are thought to be trapped under rubble.
The quake is also affecting transportation.
Clark International Airport in the province is closed until around 8:00 PM Tuesday after part of a roof gave way inside a terminal building.
The Philippines is on the "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific Ocean -- a seismically active area where earthquakes and volcanic eruptions often occur.
