Pyidaungsu Hluttaw vote on proposals for constitutional amendment

Pyidaungsu Hluttaw voted on amending provisions of sections in the 2008 Constitution on its 19th day meeting of 15th regular session yesterday.

Out of 654, a total of 633 MPs attended to vote and 21 persons were on leave.

Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat announced that each provision could be amended with the number of 491 supporting votes to pass 75 per cent of MPs (490 representatives out of 654).

Proposals for amendment to Section 5 in relation to paragraph (a) of Section 436, paragraph (d) of Section 6, paragraph (f) of Section 6, Section 7, Section 8, Section 14; proposals for annulment of paragraph (c) of Section 20, paragraph (a) of Section 26, Section 39, paragraph (b) and (c) of Section 40 failed to pass 75 per cent supporting votes.

However, proposals for amendments to paragraph (a) and (b) of Article 32 secured more than 75 per cent supporting votes.

The voting process was also monitored by Hluttaw representatives from respective political parties.
