“Pyaswe” elephant camp to be kept open during water festival

Being a tourist destination on Mawleik-Pyaungboat-Sawbwa Yeshin road side, out of Mawku reserved forests, four miles west of Mawleik town in Sagaing region, “Pyaswe” elephant conservation camp will be kept open to visitors during water festival.

 


“Our department will keep open Pyaswe elephant camp during 2019 water festival according to its schedule and entrance fees. The camp was closed temporarily during 2018 water festival due to severely-hot weather conditions”, said assistant manager U Aung Kyaw Zan of West Mawleik timber extraction area.

 


The camp opens from 8:00 am to 12 noon on weekdays and from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on weekends. The entrance fee is K 1000 for local visitors and K 20000 for foreign tourists. Local visitors can enjoy elephant-riding with a fee of K 3000 per head and foreigners, a fee of K 20000 per head. There are nine elephants and three little elephant, totaling 12. 

 


Showing elephants in harness, feeding elephants, taking elephants to a stream for a drink, showing caparisoned elephants, taking photos with elephants and sharing knowledge about elephants are available to the visitors. Rest houses for visitors are under construction. In 2018-2019 fiscal year, a total of 744 local and foreign tourists visited the camp, it is learnt.— Mawleik Tharlay
