Potato price uptrends while garlic price fluctuates in Yangon market

In the Yangon market in last week of March, Shan potato pric­es return falling. On 31 March, Shan potato A1 was priced at K1,800 per viss; OK and S1 was K2,000; and S2 K1,500.

 

On 23 March, Shan pota­to A1 was priced at K1,200 per viss; OK and S1 K1,500 while S2 K1,200. On 1 March, Shan potato A1-OK and S1 were priced at K2,400 per viss; S2 K2,100 and S3 K1,900.

 

According to the market information, since there isn’t Chinese potato arriving in the market, price of it has not been shown in the daily reference price rate since 27 February 2024 although price of Chinese potato has skyrocketed up to K4,200 per viss on 15 November 2023.

 

Potatoes need thorough storage system especially in the summer.

 

Garlic prices were surged with a break record at K17,000 per viss in the wholesale mar­ket.

 

However, new Shan garlics have arrived in Yangon mar­ket and the wholesale prices were downward trending to K5,500-K6,000-K6,500-K6,500 in the last week of March. On 28 March, the price of it returned increasing to K8,000-K8,500- K8,700-K8,700.

 

On 30 March, it dropped back to K7,500-K8,000- K8,300-K8,300. Kyukok gar­lic price turning surged back to K10,300-K10,500 per viss on 25 March whereas it was K9,500-K9,700 on 22 and 23 March. Again on 30 March, it declined to K9,800.

 

Therefore, the market in­formation reports that kitchen commodities such as rice, chilli and onion prices were decreas­ing though potato and garlic prices were fluctuating.
