Phakant 23 April
As many as 54 workers and 16 backhoes are missing beneath the mire as a pond of mire of an old jade mine collapsed and flooded the two jade-mining work sites in the early hours of 23 April in Hmawwangalay village, some three miles west of the town of Phakant, Mohnyin district, Kachin state.
After a pond of mire with a depth of some 100 feet and an area of about five acres collapsed, the mire flooded two jade-mining work sites where workers are on a night shift at 00:20 am today. The two jade-mining sites belong to three jade mining companies.
A total of 54 workers together with 16 backhoes, 19 trucks and five other vehicles are missing under the mire. A search and rescue operation is underway.— Win Naing ( Kachin Myay)
