New Express Train Service Launches On Yangon-Mawlamyine Road

A ceremony to unveil the operation of No 84 express train (down) from Mawlamyine to Yangon was held at the Platform 1 of Mawlamyine Railway Station at 9 pm on 22 August.


The event was attended by Union Minister for Transport and Communications U Thant Sin Maung, Mon State Chief Minister Dr Aye Zan and ministers, Myanma Railways (MR)’s Managing Director U Ba Myint and officials. Speaking at the event, the Union Minister said that the trains were arranged so that passengers onboard can observe social distancing set by the Ministry of Health and Sports, and the railroads were renovated to reduce travel time.


The Union Minister, the Chief Minister and officials also met the passengers and presented them gifts. Similarly, a ceremony to unveil the operation of No 83 express train (up) from Yangon to Mawlamyine was held at the Yangon Central Railway Station at 8 pm on 22 August.


Myanma Railways (MR) purchased the express trains on Yangon-Mawlamyine road with the loans from Republic of Korea (ROK). The express trains are operating with a total of 10 coaches – four upper class coaches, five ordinary class coaches, and one passenger brake coach.


Ticket prices are K 8,000 for upper class and K 4,000 for ordinary class.


No 83 up train leaves Yangon Railway Station at 8 pm and arrives at Mawlamyine Station at 5:15 am of the following day.


No 84 down train departs from Mawlamyine Station at 9 pm and arrives at the Yangon Station at 6 am the following day.
