Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand return home

Nay Pyi Taw, 24 February

Some Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand are returning home as they are not legitimate under Thailand’s Immigration Act which was amended recently, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced.

52 Myanmar migrant workers—37 men and 15 women—came back to the country through a migrant worker’s office in Myawady on 23 February via Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge No.1. The Myanmar authorities conducted search operations with the returnees in order to find out if they were bringing weapons, drugs and counterfeit money or if they had links with terrorist organizations.

Myanmar officials also provided necessary assistance to migrant workers to come back their homes in a safe and secure manner, the MOHA said.—MOHA
