Motorcycle repair shop fire torches six stalls, 53 motorbikes

More than 50 motorcycles and stalls were consumed by a fire that broke out in a motorcycle repair shop in Pyay, Bago Region early this morning.

The fire is attributed to have started from an overheated battery wire shock of a motorbike in a motorcycle repair shop beside the Pyay-Aunglan Road in Pyithaya Ward, Pyay at around 3:45 a.m. Firefighters together with policemen and residents took about an hour to completely put out the blaze with the use of 21 fire engines, water tankers and fire extinguishers. Five stalls, one mobile phone shop and 53 motorcycles were badly damaged by the fire but no casualties were reported in the incident.

Action is being taken against the owner of the motorcycle repair shop identified as Maung Thein over fire negligence by the local police station.—IPRD
